IN THE NEWS! On May 31, CBS Sunday Morning aired “By Design” featuring Hancock Shaker Village and Curator Lesley Herzberg. Click here to watch it.
Join us any Tuesday to watch master woodworkers in the Brethren’s Shop, Tannery, and Laundry & Machine Shop as they power wood lathes by foot and water, and construct oval boxes from scratch. This special display of traditional woodworking methods is included in regular admission.
Learn how the Shakers spun fiber into thread and wove fabric to make clothing, every Wednesday in the Sister’s Shop. Watch a flax-processing demonstration at 2:30 pm and make a felted bead in the Discovery Barn (11 am to noon, and 2 to 3 pm). See swifts (below) that the Shakers made and sold for yarn winding.
